Authorship Criteria

Standards for authorship, contributorship, corresponding-author responsibility, and changes to the author list.

COPE-AlignedContributor TransparencyHuman Accountability

Authorship is both academic credit and public responsibility. FUADUNA expects every listed author to have made a genuine intellectual contribution and to be able to take responsibility for the integrity of the published work.

Authorship Criteria

A person should be listed as an author only when all of the following criteria are met:

  1. Made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work; or to data/source acquisition, analysis, or interpretation.
  2. Participated in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
  3. Approved the final version to be submitted and published.
  4. Agreed to be accountable for the work and to cooperate in resolving questions concerning accuracy, integrity, or authorship.

Contributor Roles and Acknowledgements

FUADUNA encourages transparent contribution statements using the CRediT taxonomy where appropriate. Contributions may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, writing, visualization, supervision, and project administration.

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet all authorship criteria should be acknowledged with their permission and should not be listed as authors.

Unacceptable Authorship Practices

  • Gift or honorary authorship: adding a person because of status, position, reputation, or administrative authority without qualifying contribution.
  • Guest authorship: adding a well-known person to increase the perceived prestige or likelihood of publication.
  • Ghost authorship: omitting a person who made a substantial qualifying contribution.
  • Purchased or traded authorship: adding, removing, or rearranging authors in exchange for money, favors, or reciprocal publication advantage.

Corresponding Author Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all authors meet the authorship criteria and that no eligible contributor has been omitted.
  • Confirm that all authors approve the manuscript, author order, and submission to FUADUNA.
  • Maintain accurate OJS metadata, including affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID identifiers where available.
  • Communicate editorial decisions and revision requests to all co-authors.
  • Disclose funding, conflicts of interest, ethical approvals, and other required declarations on behalf of the author group.
  • Remain available after publication to respond to legitimate questions about the work.

Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be submitted to the editorial office with a clear explanation and written agreement from all affected authors. Changes after acceptance are exceptional and require editorial approval. Authorship disputes may be referred to the relevant institutions when the journal cannot independently determine contribution claims.

Generative AI is not an author

Generative AI tools cannot meet authorship responsibilities, cannot consent to publication, and cannot be held accountable for the work. AI systems must therefore never be listed as authors or co-authors.

Policy note. This page should be read together with FUADUNA's Focus and Scope, Peer Review Process, Publication Ethics, Copyright and Licensing, and other applicable editorial policies. Where a conflict arises, the most recently approved journal policy applies.
