Abstract

This study aims to analyze the internalization of Islamic values ​​in the work practices of metal craftsmen in Growong Kidul Village, Juwana, and develop the concept of "practiced Islam" as a new theoretical framework in the study of Islamic work ethic. Using a qualitative-ethnographic approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and content analysis with 15 informants (male and female craftsmen, Generation Z, clerics, and students). The concept of "practiced Islam" was developed through a thematic analysis that revealed the performative-contextual dimensions of Islamic values ​​in the production space. The results show that the metal kitchen functions as a hybrid space where Islamic values ​​are lived through work practices and maintaining precision as a manifestation of trust, stopping work during the call to prayer as a ritual interruption, and responding to economic fluctuations with tawakkal as a cognitive-emotional strategy. Female craftsmen reconstruct their domestic roles into productive ones through reflective negotiation, forming a hybrid Muslim identity that integrates piety and economic autonomy. Theoretically, this concept enriches the literature on Islamic work ethics by demonstrating the operationalization of religion through the mechanisms of embodiment, religious habitus, and work ritualization, offering a new perspective on understanding the intersection of religion, economics, and gender. Cross-site studies are recommended to test the concept's generalizability.
