Islam Realitas is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal devoted to the interdisciplinary study of Islam as a lived social reality and of Muslim societies in processes of social transformation. The journal examines how Islamic beliefs, practices, values, institutions, authorities, identities, and discourses are produced, experienced, negotiated, contested, and transformed within everyday life and the public sphere.
The journal prioritizes theoretically informed and empirically grounded research that demonstrates a clear scholarly problem, appropriate method, transparent evidence, and an explicit contribution to debates in Islamic studies, the social sciences, and the humanities. While welcoming scholarship from diverse regions, the journal has particular interest in Southeast Asia and the Global South and welcomes comparative, cross-regional, transnational, and diaspora studies.
The Publisher provides institutional, technical, and administrative support. Academic decisions remain under the authority of the Editor-in-Chief and delegated editors acting under the journal's peer-review and ethics procedures. Acceptance, revision, or rejection must be based on scholarly merit, scope, originality, methodological and evidentiary quality, research integrity, and relevant peer-review reports. Decisions must not be influenced by an author's institutional affiliation, nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, political views, social identity, or ability to pay publication charges.
The current publication series of Islam Realitas began in 2015 as a continuation of the scholarly publication previously known as Islam dan Realitas Sosial. The journal has subsequently developed its identity around interdisciplinary scholarship on Islam, Muslim societies, and social transformation, while strengthening international authorship, peer review, publication ethics, open access, and long-term digital accessibility.
