Abstract: The closeness of two major organizations Muhammadiyah and the Union of Tarbiyah Islamiyah in West Sumatra with the political constellation can not be avoided. Although these organizations  have declared themselves not to engage in practical poli- tics, but some of their cadres entered into a political party. Muhammadiyah's closeness to political parties reflected in the many elite Muhammadiyah  entering "Partai Amanat Nasional" (PAN), while the Union of Tarbiyah Islamiyah have closeness with the Golkar Party. The closeness to political parties on the one hand will bring negative stigma that this organization is not independent because affiliated to any political party, but on the other hand will provide benefits to these two great organizations, because their access to the legislative or executive can be more effective as leaders they exist in these institutions.
