Author Guidelines

Authors are required to carefully follow these guidelines before submitting a manuscript. Compliance with the journal's focus, manuscript structure, publication ethics, and submission requirements is essential for editorial consideration.

A. Article Types

HuRuf Journal publishes the following types of manuscripts:

All manuscripts must fall within the journal's Focus and Scope.

B. General Requirements

1. The manuscript must be original, have not been previously published, and must not be under consideration by another journal.
2. The manuscript must make a clear scholarly contribution to Arabic applied linguistics and be relevant to the journal's Focus and Scope.
3. Manuscripts may be written in Arabic or English using clear, accurate, and appropriate academic language.
4. Manuscripts should generally contain 5,000–8,000 words, including the abstract, tables, figures, and references.
5. Authors must use the official HuRuf Journal manuscript template available on the journal website.
6. Authors must first submit the manuscript through: Rumah Jurnal Manuscript Submission . The Editor will review the manuscript to determine whether it meets the journal's basic requirements and is eligible to proceed to the next stage. If the manuscript is deemed eligible, the author will receive an email notification with further instructions. The author must then submit the full-text manuscript through the OJS account provided in the email.
7. All manuscripts are subject to an initial editorial screening and similarity check before being considered for double-blind peer review.
8. Authors are fully responsible for the originality of the manuscript, accuracy and integrity of the data, appropriate citation of sources, and compliance with research and publication ethics.

C. Author Information and Manuscript Anonymity

Complete author information must be entered in the OJS metadata, including:

• Full name without academic titles;
• Institutional affiliation;
• Country;
• Email address;
• ORCID iD, if available; and
• Identification of the corresponding author.

Authors must also remove names, affiliations, acknowledgments, and other identifying information from the manuscript and file properties before submission.

D. Structure of Research Articles

1. Title

The title must:

• be concise, specific, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the study;
• contain no more than 15 words;
• clearly represent the principal topic or variables of the research; and
• avoid uncommon abbreviations, overly general expressions, and unnecessary words.

2. Abstract

The manuscript must include abstracts in English and Arabic.

Each abstract should:

• be written as a single paragraph;
• contain approximately 150–250 words;
• briefly state the research background or problem;
• clearly identify the research objective;
• explain the research method;
• present the main findings;
• indicate the principal contribution or significance of the study; and
• provide a concise conclusion.

Keywords

Provide 3–5 relevant keywords or key phrases that accurately represent the main concepts of the article and facilitate indexing and discoverability.

3. Introduction

The Introduction should establish the scholarly context and rationale for the study. It should include:

• the research background and context;
• relevant and current literature representing the state of the art;
• critical identification of the research gap;
• the research problem or research questions;
• the research objective(s);
• the novelty of the study; and
• the expected theoretical and/or practical contribution to Arabic applied linguistics.

The Introduction should not merely summarize previous studies. It should demonstrate how the current study extends, challenges, or addresses limitations in existing scholarship.

4. Methods

The Methods section must provide sufficient information to allow readers to understand how the study was conducted and, where appropriate, enable replication.

The section should describe:

• research approach and design;
• research setting or location, where relevant;
• participants, population, sample, corpus, or other data sources;
• sampling or data-selection procedures;
• research instruments;
• data collection procedures;
• data analysis procedures;
• validity, reliability, trustworthiness, or other quality-assurance procedures appropriate to the research design; and
• ethical approval or ethical considerations, where applicable.

5. Results

The Results section should present the findings objectively, clearly, and systematically in accordance with the research objectives or questions.

Findings should be explained through analytical narrative and may be supported by quantitative or qualitative evidence.

Tables, figures, graphs, and diagrams may be used when they improve the clarity of the findings but should not replace the narrative explanation.

Authors should avoid unnecessary repetition of the same information in both the text and tables or figures.

6. Discussion

The Discussion should move beyond restating the findings and explain their scholarly meaning and significance.

Authors are expected to:

• interpret the principal findings;
• explain the findings in relation to relevant theories or concepts;
• compare the findings with previous research;
• explain similarities, differences, or unexpected findings;
• demonstrate the novelty and scholarly contribution of the study;
• discuss implications for Arabic applied linguistics;
• identify relevant theoretical and/or practical implications; and
• acknowledge important limitations of the study.

The Discussion should be supported by relevant and current scholarly literature.

7. Conclusion

The Conclusion should:

• directly answer the research objectives or research questions;
• synthesize the most important findings;
• clearly state the principal contribution of the study;
• identify relevant theoretical or practical implications; and
• provide recommendations or directions for future research where appropriate.

The Conclusion should not simply repeat the Results or Discussion and should not introduce substantial new evidence or arguments.

E. Structure of Conceptual Articles

Conceptual articles are not required to follow the complete IMRAD structure. However, they must present a clear, rigorous, and original scholarly argument.

A conceptual article should generally include:

1. Title
2. Abstract and Keywords
3. Introduction
4. Theoretical or Conceptual Foundation
5. Critical Analysis and Argument Development
6. Discussion and Scholarly Implications
7. Conclusion
8. References

F. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

Tables, figures, graphs, diagrams, and other illustrations must:

• be relevant to the analysis;
• be numbered consecutively;
• have clear and informative titles;
• be cited and discussed in the main text;
• include the source when adapted or reproduced from another work; and
• be provided in a clear and readable format.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted tables, figures, instruments, or other materials where required.

G. References and Citations

References should include only sources cited in the manuscript. The following requirements apply:

1. Citations and references must follow the APA 7th Edition style.
2. Authors should use reference-management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to maintain citation accuracy and consistency.
3. As a general guideline, research articles are expected to include approximately 30 or more relevant scholarly references, depending on the nature and methodology of the study.
4. At least 80% of the references should preferably consist of peer-reviewed journal articles, with priority given to relevant publications from the last 10 years.
5. Seminal and foundational works may be cited regardless of publication year when they are theoretically or historically important to the study.
6. Authors should prioritize relevant primary and authoritative sources, particularly articles published in reputable national and international journals.
7. Every source included in the reference list must be cited in the text, and every in-text citation must have a corresponding entry in the reference list.
8. A DOI should be provided whenever one is available.

H. Research and Publication Ethics

Authors must comply with generally accepted principles of research and publication ethics.

Where applicable, manuscripts should include appropriate statements regarding:

• ethical approval or research ethics;
• informed consent;
• protection of research participants;
• author contributions;
• funding or financial support;
• conflicts of interest;
• data availability; and
• acknowledgments.

I. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Authors must transparently disclose any substantive use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted tools in preparing the manuscript.

Where AI is used for data processing, data analysis, coding, translation, figure generation, or other methodological purposes, its use should be appropriately described in the relevant section of the manuscript.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, citations, interpretations, and conclusions of all content submitted to the journal.
